The behaviour and expectations of university students has been constantly changing. How older people remember university life bears no relation to modern student living. Whereas students used to occupy bedrooms in shared houses in the poorer parts of cities, many now choose to live in purpose built student accommodation in central locations near to nightlife, shopping centres and facilities.
The financing of a student lifestyle is significantly larger and more flexible nowadays. Loans are widely available to anyone who secures a recognised course at a college or university, and students expect to finish their education with large debts, which are required to be paid back over a long period starting only when and if they have secured a good job, this has also led to the increase in the money budgeted for accommodation.
